LESSONS FROM ICAST Posted On: 7/29/2006

Are you one of those people who gets a sudden twinkle in his eyes and a smile from ear to ear the instant he walks through the doors of a Bass Pro Shops or other fishing tackle megastore? Then you would feel like a kid visiting Disney World for the first time if you came to the ICAST in Las Vegas ...

If you are a tournament angler, chances are every year you find yourself fighting a tough uphill battle before you even begin to get ready for the season’s first tourney – it’s the never-ending chase for sponsorship money.  If you are new to the professional side of the sport, ...

EASY WAYS TO SAVE GAS (Part-1) Posted On: 11/11/2005

The rising international demand that has driven crude oil costs higher across the globe, coupled with our limited refining capacity, and significant hurricane damage to offshore rigs, refineries, pipelines and ports in the Gulf of Mexico, have ...

CHOOSING YOUR TOURNAMENT PARTNER Posted On: 01/18/2005

What boat to use? What tackle? What should you include in your budget? Who do you approach for sponsorship? Decisions, decisions, you'll be faced with quite a few when you join the professional tournament ranks. Believe it or not, picking a partner to join you on tour could very well be the hardest choice you'll have to make. Most newcomers don't realize the hard work and preparation it takes to compete at the pro level and, therefore, don't fully comprehend how important it is to choose the ...

CONSPIRACY THEORY Posted On: 06/01/2004

All those who are glad the Texas legs of the Oberto Redfish Cup are finally behind us raise your hand! Come on now, I know I’m not the only one licking his wounds after Kemah and Port Aransas. No offense to the wonderful residents of the Lone Star state, but they need to remember to shut off the fan when a big tournament comes to town. Chicago the windy city? My foot! The Texas Gulf Coast gets my vote hands down.

Truth be told, I faced bigger problems than the stiff breeze ...

THE WAITING IS THE HARDEST PART Posted On: 03/22/2004

Hard to believe we are only 5 weeks away from the start of the second Oh Boy! Oberto Redfish Cup. I'd be lying if I said that time just flew by. For those of us who didn't qualify for the finals, this season's first event couldn't come fast enough. Since last August I've been trying to shake off the fact that my teammate and I finished the qualifiers 2 spots short of earning the trip to the championship. Tough to come so close and not get the chance to compete in the big one. Guess that must ...

CAN YOU AFFORD TO BE A REDFISH PRO? Posted On: 02/23/2004

O.K., let's say you are as good an angler as you think. You've done quite well in a number of tournaments back home, and you feel in your heart that you're ready set the pro redfish circuit ablaze. But before you toss your rods in back of your SUV and hitch your boat trailer, you might want to take a few minutes to examine a couple of the obstacles you're bound to run up against as you begin life on tour.

Surely you're well aware that you'll have to leave behind your family and the c ...

THE PRO ANGLER'S CODE OF CONDUCT Posted On: 02/12/2004

Play nice! Sit up straight! Don’t talk with your mouth open!? Every child faces a similar barrage of commands at one time or another from parents who, in their efforts to instill in us good manners, sometimes take to barking orders loudly and irritatingly enough to make a drill sergeant proud. Unless the child is smart enough or docile enough to comply, things can often get a little violent. How many kids have we seen get their rears whipped at K-mart in the midst of a blue light specia ...

WHO'S READY TO BE FAMOUS? Posted On: 02/06/2004

It's been more than a month since the holidays, yet I'd bet Christmas lights and ornaments continue to decorate the homes of many redfish anglers. But who can blame them? With news of the amazingly fast growth of the Oh Boy! Oberto Redfish Cup and its prize money, it would be hard to find a single registered participant who isn't dreaming about the possibilities.

Indeed, thanks to overwhelming support from anglers and sponsors a new tour that just last spring popped up in almost impr ...
